... Mike Gilpin who has been selected as a reserve for the Senior Welsh Team to play against Cheshire in the away team at Budenbergs on Sunday 5th July. Hopefully Mike will get a game ...

Chart Toppers.

Week ending Saturday 30th May.

1...Graham Rogers remains top of the Ponderosa Premier Merit having played eleven and won eleven.

2...Michael Revill (at 25/1)qualified at Garden Village for the Welsh Merit Final. Is Mike the first home grown Cunliffe player to achieve this? Answers on a postcard to...... . Unfortunately he lost in the first round at Abergele with what was a reasonable 11-21 score.

3...Eryl Jones selected for the Wrexham Veterans League away team against Gwynedd.

4...The Wrexham A have a conclusive 14-0 home win against Llay B, the second time the A team has won 14-0 this season.

5...The Wrexham B team have a very competent 9-5 away win against Ellesmere A.

6...The Malpas Senior Citizens A team top their League, and the B team also top their league.

7...The Flintshire B team and A teams have great team results in their League Cup quarter finals. The B team splitting the games 5-5 and winning the aggregate. The A team battle through despite one player not being allowed to play because of the continuous play rule.

8...Dave Jones (the first Academy player to appear on the front page of the website) wins 21-10 for the Wrexham Veterans C team and is now third in their merit.

....Below are thoughts on recent performances of the Cunliffe teams and players, edited by Chris Revill. The Management, the Web Site Administrator, take no responsibility for any offence that may be taken!!!! ...

...The Welsh Counties team played away to Deganwy Jones Roofing and had two winners, Rhys Hopwood 21-11 and Robin Bennett 21-13. Mike Gilpin, Rhys Hopwood and Gareth Rogers are at the top of the merit. .... The Flintshire A team, no real surprise here, two winners, Colin Jones 21-14 and Kerrie Jones 21-19, away to Bailey Hill. Colin Jones and Graham Bennett still battling it out at the top of the merit, but watch out, Kerrie Jones eight wins out of nine games is now in the hunt. The B team win 8-4 at home to Aston A. Wally Williams 17-20 down, two twos and game over 21-10. Laurence Millward 21-8 ( and played ten won nine)now leads the merit from Roger Fisher also a 21-8 winner and with Alec Williams 21-10, a very good result. .... The Wrexham Veterans A team lose 3-7 at home to Rhos, and the aggregate by one, with Eryl Jones 21-5 and Roy Dougal 21-10. Eryl Jones still closely followed by captain John Huxley leads the merit. The B team, oh dear dear, have no winners away to Parciau A. Mick Crowley still leads John Williams at the top of the merit. The C team had a free week. Bill Cotton is being chased by Derek Glynn (president) and Dave Jones for the merit. .... The Malpas Senior Citizens A team beat Malpas Farmers 166-110 (7-1) away last week. Ron Jones despite being the only loser (as well as losing his first game in this league this season) scoring 19-21 and Jim Clarke winning 21-4 lead the merit, with the other good score being Roy Parker 21-10. The B team, did they have a game this week no. .... The Cunliffe A team, in the Wrexham Ponderosa Premier Division, win for the second time this season 14-0. Four, yes four 21-5 wins in the first four games (this has never happened before) and to top that Robin Bennett wins 21-2. Graham Rogers still unbeaten with eleven wins leads the merit. ..... The B team have a more than satisfying 9-5 away win against Ellesmere A. Merfyn Jones 21-5 and Dave Smith 21-8 and Chris Jones now played seven won seven show why this was a great result. Merfyn Jones is chasing Kevin Perry at the top of the B team merit. The C team lost 6-8 away against Coed Talon B. Ex B team player Ron Jones wins 21-14. Jim Clarke closely followed by Barry Davies (played six won six) lead the merit. .... The Pairs Team, one winning pair, Alec Williams and Malcolm Parry (sorry Malcolm Parry and Alec Williams) away to Bersham. Not all was doom and gloom however. How unlucky to have two 20-21 losing pairs. Who had the jacks? Roy Dougal (captain) and Alec Williams are still in front in the merit table. .... Cup News: A great team effort saw the Flintshire B progress to the semi final of the John Ledger Cup. Five winners each but the aggregate won by 21. Chris Swire 21-8 and Alan nine pin Garton 21-7 did help a little. The Flintshire A team (job sharing with the Welsh Counties team beat Coaed Talon A at Llay and progress through to the next round. This despite the continuous play rule and one Cunliffe player not being allowed to play! Such is life.In the 6 home 6 away cup, the B team were given their game by Ellesmere B and the C team because of the rain the winners were decided upon by the toss of a coin. Guess what? What? The Cunliffe C team were lucky with the toss. What is this competition? Was it all a dream?. ....

...The George Roberts open Pairs was won by Graham Rogers and Mike Gilpin who are pictured below with Derek Glynn, the Cunliffe Arms Bowling Club's President. They beat fellow Cunliffe team mates Graham and Robin Bennett in the final ...
